Humane Party Jobs Report: Assessing the Exploitation of Animals in the United States’ Agriculture, Food, and Related Industries Sectors

In 2017 the United States raised over 9.63 billion land-based animals. This number includes cows, veal (baby cows), cows for their milk, chickens, chickens for their eggs, turkeys, goats and sheep (both for their meat and their wool). There are also aquatic species (both wild and cultivated) as well as bees for honey. This massive industrial raising of animals for food and fiber requires a complex system of workers. Not all jobs are equal in their exploitation of the specific animal species. In order to fully assess which jobs are most exploitative, we have created a classification system.

Working on Creating a Vegan World: A Rebuttal of “Nutritional and Greenhouse Gas Impacts of Removing Animals from US Agriculture”

In the November 13, 2017 issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Robin R. White and Mary Beth Hall attempt to establish why a hypothetical vegan world is not possible. Their findings do show a decrease in greenhouse gas emissions, but they argue that a diet without animals or any kind of supplementation would be nutritionally deficient. Our mission at the Humane Party and specifically in the Economic Transition Team is to create a United States agriculture and economy 100% free of animal exploitation.

Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) is a phrase that is relatively new to our lexicon. Only since 1994 have GMOs been approved for use in the United States. But what are GMOs, who grows them, where do they exist, and why should we say No? This is what we will explore in this article.
