Renee King-Sonnen and Jane Velez-Mitchell took a guitar, a sense of humor, and a message of change straight into the heart of cattle country.
Some movement songs arrive with fury. Others are built for marches, vigils, protests, or moments when there seems to be no other way to say what needs to be said.
And then there is “Texas Is Going Vegan.”
It is playful, unapologetically country, a little cheeky, and performed in perhaps the most fitting setting possible: a Texas cattle ranch that became a sanctuary.
For this edition of The Listening Lounge, we are reaching back to a collaboration between Renee King-Sonnen, founder of Rowdy Girl Sanctuary, and UNCHAINEDTV founder Jane Velez-Mitchell. The two co-wrote the song and performed it together at Rowdy Girl Sanctuary in Texas, surrounded by cows whose lives represented exactly the kind of change they were singing about.
