Humane Party volunteers and supporters of the Humane Party of New York Chapter met last month on Juneteenth (June 19) for the first of many events to discuss top issues of concern in NYC. As the only United States political party committed to a full and abolitionist vegan future, the Humane Party is deeply dedicated to complete systems-wide change within and across society. However, the 90-minute online community event also provided the opportunity to discuss specific policy areas within NYC that fit within a broad policy framework, such as 1. public funding for vegan initiatives (e.g., vegan options for foodbanks, vegan food for incarcerated populations, subsidies for vegan products), legislation that would 2. ban abuse and cruelty to animals (e.g., bans on slaughter houses within the City, bans on glue traps) and 3. significant fixes to existing policies and organizations in NYC (e.g., funding for enforcement of unlicensed dog breeding in NYC).
The meeting provided the opportunity for growing connections and community among vegan supporters and served as a launching off point for future, regular meetings to collectively advance the Humane Party. We invite you to be involved in future, similar events and to take advantage of the opportunity to grow your network and community of vegans while taking an active role in advancing your Humane Party.
