Back in 1992, a mere 25 years ago, The Union for Concerned Scientists and more than 1,700 more independent scientists called on humankind to curtail environmental destruction and cautioned that “a great change in our stewardship of the Earth and the life on it is required, if vast human misery is to be avoided.”
Today in 2017, world scientists have released a second warning notice and have stated, “with the exception of stabilizing the stratospheric ozone layer, humanity has failed to make sufficient progress in generally solving these foreseen environmental challenges, and alarmingly, most of them are getting far worse.” Most concerning is potentially catastrophic climate change due to rising greenhouse gas emissions from burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and agricultural production, these mainly due to raising livestock and the crops required to feed them. You can read the report here and witness the disturbing trends.
At the Humane Party (HP) we feel that we must take legislative action to eliminate the incessant suffering of all beings and the planet as a whole. We are all a part of the same organic system, and if one system dies (the oceans, the forest, the grasslands, etc…), we will all perish, too. This is not an apocalyptic threat, this is a stark reality. If broad sweeping action to reduce our global footprint is not initiated now, then the potential third scientists’ warning in 25 years–one generation–will concern just a handful of species left on the planet, if any at all.

This is the time for action. As much as individual choice is a powerful step in the right direction, governmentally we must pass laws and set restrictions to reverse all these devastating developments.
Thankfully there is hope. There is the Humane Party, and within the Humane party there is the Economic Transition Team that is diligently working on bringing these issues to light and on creating effective change.
The mission of the Economic Transition Team (ETT) is to end 100% of the exploitation of all animals within the United States and its economy.
In pursuit of this mission, we wish to:
- complete reports on every sector of the United States economy as related to agriculture, the environment, natural resources, rural economic development, education, jobs, financial services, health care, national security, law enforcement, transportation, science, and technology (see examples of our reports here)
- share our findings with all interested parties upon completion and publish said reports through, among other outlets, The Humane Herald
- become, in part, a vegan, abolitionist “think tank” where we attempt not only to highlight the issues but also to enable transition of all relevant industries from exploitation-based to exploitation-free
- be a forum for bright human minds, young and old alike, to come together, envision, and create a fully vegan world.
We need your help. We need your voice and we need your presence. No matter what your skill set, HP and the ETT can use your abilities. We can change the direction of skyrocketing GHG’s, we can reverse deforestation, ocean dead zones, species extinction, water resource depletion, and habitat loss. We can end animal exploitation forever, but only if we come and work together. Join us today!
