This includes modern-day practices such as forced labor, human trafficking, and the exploitation of non-human animals.

With the two largest political parties—Republicans and Democrats—each capturing 46% of the vote, a small but significant 5% from the Humane Party could push the total vote over the 50% threshold needed to win. It is important to recognize, for example, out of the previous nine Presidential elections, only one (Obama vs McCain) was decided by more than 5 percentage points; and several have been much, much closer. Bush won by a difference of 537 votes, or .009%, in Florida in 2000. This means the Humane Party could be the deciding factor in close races, provided the supported candidate meets the ethical standards set forth by the party.
